Building Relationships, One Call at a Time
By: Kimberly Katz
In 2025, who would have thought the phone call would make a comeback? As a Business Development Representative (BDR), it’s the most powerful tool I use—every single day.
How can that be possible? Let’s get back to basics.
Automation, artificial intelligence, and cold emails have helped many companies streamline their sales and marketing efforts. And yes, I use those tools, too—especially emails. But for new potential customers, impersonal communications are easy to ignore, and inboxes fill up fast. It’s easy to forget the impact a simple phone call can have, but as a BDR at Budderfly, I can tell you and show you that calling works. And not just in a checking-a-box kind of way. It’s how real conversations start. It’s how trust is built. It’s how meetings get booked.
The only thing a phone call really does? It proves I’m a real person. It puts gentle pressure on business owners to open up and take the meeting. And it gives me the opportunity—remotely—to bring tone, personalization, and presence into a conversation that would otherwise feel transactional.
Every day, I pick up the phone and connect with business owners across the country. Not with a script. Not with a gimmick. Just a real person offering real value, I can let them know how companies can take control of their energy usage, cut unnecessary costs, and move toward sustainability with Budderfly’s innovative technology solutions.
A live conversation can accomplish far more than any automated message or stock email (a tool that I do use!). When I talk to business owners, I can learn about their priorities and pain points. I can engage with them with true understanding and answer any questions directly, making their experience of learning about Budderfly’s solutions seamless and comprehensive.
Plus, they can hear my genuine passion for Budderfly and understand that our business model is not too good to be true.
Is calling people always easy? – It depends on the day. But it’s worth it. Because when someone on the other end realizes you’re not just another sales pitch, but someone who understands their challenges, that’s when the magic happens!
