A Day in the Life of an HVAC Technician

A Day in the Life of an HVAC Technician

At Budderfly, we understand that having equipment run smoothly is essential for business owners. That’s why our Service Technicians are a cornerstone of our company. They help ensure that the heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) equipment we install for our customers continues to operate at peak performance by conducting regular maintenance and solving any technical issues that may arise. One of our Service Technician superstars is Derrica Bookman, and in this blog post she shares what a day in the life of a Service Technician can look like.

By: Derrica Bookman

A day in the life of an HVAC technician involves troubleshooting and repairing heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems.

I usually start my day around 6:30 a.m. by reviewing service requests. These could be anything from a service call or routine maintenance. Then I gather necessary tools, which includes some small hand tools, my meter, and my temperature gun. Then I head to the job site.

Around 7:00 a.m., I arrive at my job site, where I diagnose any issues. These might include a broken thermostat or a failed compressor. Otherwise, I perform maintenance tasks and ensure systems are operating efficiently.

To personalize my experience on each job site, I make sure to learn what each customer’s needs are and work to accommodate them as necessary. For example, a customer may have concerns about the temperatures and may need them adjusted.

Being a powerful woman in the service industry, I love to feed the curiosity some people have, including questions like, “Is she capable of lifting, climbing and performing like the guys?”

I allow my professionalism and work ethics to answer their curiosity.

By 9:00 a.m., it is the end of my service call, and I have built rapport with and wowed my customers. My aim is not only to close their diversity questions, but to have them wishing there were more women in the industry such as myself.

Or better yet, the next time they need service, requesting “Just send the lady!”

I love providing excellent services to ones in need and putting a smile on customers' faces.

I am your favorite lady technician.

I am Derrica.
